Haut Koenigsbourg: Nine centuries of German-French history

The Haut Koenigsbourg is amongst the few medieval castles in Europe that has been reconstructed in its original form after being destroyed during the 30 Years’ War. A complete restoration including all furniture, a fully stocked armoury, the large banqueting hall, etc. was undertaken from 1901 to 1909. Visitors can thus experience at first hand what the life of castle lords was like in the Middle Ages. This experience is supported by guided tours in several languages including German. With more than 500,000 visitors, the castle, which is open all year round, is one of the most visited sights in France.
